About John Knox Sex Club

After an enforced tax-break hiatus of 12 months, the John Knox Sex Club have reformed.

The real John Knox, as everyone knows, was one of the first official bobbies on the beat in Glasgow during the later part of the 19th Century. His primary role was strike breaking and enforcing licensing laws but he had a side-line in kickbacks from prostitution.

The band had grown up together in Glen Curney, a small mining-fishing village in Stirlingshire, but had lost track of each other until they met again while working in a nightclub. After much discussion they decided to form a band which would channel the MC5 and Fugazi.

This they did not do; instead they formed ‘The John Knox Sex Club’ (sometimes no the).
They have since released 2 critically lauded and commercially viable albums on their own Last Blast label.

They have toured the UK and played local support slots with amongst others Frightened Rabbit, We Were Promised Jetpacks & Of Montreal. Along with this they have played unusual one-off events such as Rough Cut Nation in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and the launch of Creative Stirling in St Allen’s Parish Church on Good Friday 2012.
